Trains cancelled, diverted in Vadodara amid heavy showers

 

The Western Railways has 'indefinitely' suspended the 12927 Dadar-Ekta Nagar Express between Vadodara and Ekta Nagar.

Several trains were cancelled on Sunday on the Vadodara-Ekta Nagar Statue of Unity route and those passing through the Vadodara Junction. The diversions were attributed to heavy rain and a technical fault in the Bajwa-Vadodara yard line by Western Railway.

Seventeen trains were also diverted on the Godhra-Ratlam route following the derailment of Darshan Superfast Express on Saturday, which was reported when the superfast train was between Amargadh and Panchpipaliya railway stations.

After heavy rain on Sunday morning in the catchment areas and the elease of water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Narmada, eight trains connecting Vadodara to Ekta Nagar, where the Statue of Unity is located, were cancelled for a day while three trains were cancelled for an “indefinite period”, officials said. Sardar Patel’s statue, the tallest in the world, has been one of the top tourist attractions since it was unveiled in 2018.

Due to “dangerous water levels” recorded at two bridges – numbered 61 and 76 on the Pratapnagar-Ekta Nagar route – the traffic was affected, underlined Western Railway.

The eight trains cancelled on Sunday include three Pratapnagar-Ekta Nagar MEMU trains numbered 09107, 09109, 09113 and three Ekta Nagar-Pratapnagar MEMU trains numbered 09108, 09110, 09114 as well as 20947 Ahmedabad-Ekta Nagar Jan Shatabdi Express and 20950 Ekta Nagar-Ahmedabad Jan Shatabdi Express. MEMU is Mainline Electric Multiple Unit that runs on the mainline generally for distances more than the suburban sections, as per the official description.

The Western Railway has also “indefinitely” suspended the 12927 Dadar kta Nagar Express between Vadodara and Ekta Nagar. The train will terminate at Vadodara Junction until further notice. Meanwhile, 12928 Ekta Nagar-Dadar Express will originate from Vadodara Junction instead of Ekta Nagar until further notice while 120906 Rewa-Ekta Nagar Express will also terminate at Vadodara station until further notice.
